The Swedish Pimple Spoon
The Swedish Pimple is a classic American-made, solid-brass jigging spoon produced by Bay de Noc Lure Company since 1955. Based on Swedish jigging designs used for more than a century, it creates flash and an erratic, baitfish-like action that works through the ice or when vertically jigged from a boat.
A sharp lift sends the spoon upward with a quick dart, while controlled slack allows it to flash and wander on the fall. It can be fished aggressively to attract fish from a distance or worked with shorter lifts and longer pauses when fish become less willing to chase. Tip the hook with a minnow head or small piece of bait when additional scent and a more stationary target are needed.
Choosing the Right Swedish Pimple Finish
Linn Creek Outdoors carries six finishes selected to cover different water clarity, light, and visibility conditions.
-
Gold — Warm, natural flash for stained water, overcast skies, and lower-light conditions
-
Nickel — Bright, baitfish-like flash for clear water and brighter conditions
-
Prism Chartreuse — Reflective prism flash with a highly visible chartreuse target
-
Luminous — A glow-tape finish that can be charged for deep water, low light, stained water, and ice-fishing presentations
-
Wonderbread — A high-contrast white pattern with multiple bright color cues for changing conditions; this standard Wonderbread finish does not glow
- Super Wonderbread Glow — A chargeable glow finish combined with the bright, multicolored Wonderbread pattern for maximum visibility in deep water, darkness, stained water, and under the ice
Choosing the Right Swedish Pimple Size
Smaller Swedish Pimples provide a more controlled presentation for shallower water and less aggressive fish. Larger sizes reach depth faster, maintain better control in current, and create a stronger profile for walleye, northern pike, and lake trout.
-
Size 4 — 1/4 oz, 1¾″ — Perch, shallow-water walleye, and finesse presentations
-
Size 5 — 1/3 oz, 1⅞″ — A versatile all-around size for walleye and larger perch
-
Size 6 — 1/2 oz, 2¼″ — Deeper-water walleye, faster drops, and lighter northern pike presentations
-
Size 7 — 3/4 oz, 2¾″ — Deep-water walleye, northern pike, and lake trout when reaching and staying near the fish matters
